Rising above victim mentality
Sometimes in life, it might be that you feel overwhelmed, scared, defeated ....and then it's so important to remind yourself: You are at the steering wheel of your life, no matter what hardships life throws at you.
So if you are trapped in thinking that you cannot course correct your life, that bad things happen to you, I encourage you to break free from this victim mentality - it's poisonous.
Carl Jung said, " I am not what has happened to me. I am what I choose to become."
I have never seen myself as a victim, believing that life does not simply happen to me but that it happens for me.
And thanks to this mindset I have actively pushed myself to find out what I can do to better my situation respectively what I can learn from it. I have realized that my innermost “can do”-attitude also proved valuable in difficult, challenging situations. I truly believe that there is a blessing in everything, the challenge is to find it.
Once, in a very tough hospital moment when doctors mentioned that there is a high probability that my cancers might not be curable, I received the following SMS from my work friend Stephen which touched me deeply and kicked me out of desperation:
Tough times never last Tough people do And today’s tough times make us stronger for tomorrow
