From multi-tasking to making the most of Now
My quest to live in the moment challenges me to re-think my approach on multi-tasking. In the past I was really a proud multi-tasker, doing it all, from business life to mothering, to full private life. Now my limited energies due to the continuing Cancer Fatigue (check out my earlier blog post if you would like to learn what it entails) push me to choose wisely what I do, respectively NOT do, and acknowledge that multi-tasking actually means that you do several activities at the same time on a mediocre, average level.

Recently I came across an article online, written by Travis Bradberry who elaborates on the facts that multitasking is actually a productivity killer - ouch! "Stanford University confirms that multitasking is less productive than doing a single thing at a time. The researchers found that people who are regularly bombarded with several streams of electronic information cannot pay attention, recall information or switch from one job to another as well as those who complete one task at a time. When you try to do two things at once, your brain lacks the capacity to perform both tasks successfully." They also found that heavy multitaskers -- those who multitasked a lot and felt that it boosted their performance -- were actually worse at multitasking than those who liked to do a single thing at a time. The frequent multitaskers performed worse because they had more trouble organizing their thoughts and filtering out irrelevant information, and they were slower at switching from one task to another. Ouch Ouch Ouch!
So let's try it: less multitasking, more living in the moment with 100% of our brain & heart!
