Conquer your fears - the reward is amazing!

One of my most astonishing revelations is that I have become truly fearless in the past months. The starting point was definitely the initial shock of the cancer diagnosis. Yes, I was initially very fearful and afraid of what might lie ahead.

In the emotional roller-coaster of the first hours, I did not shy away but addressed head-on my fear, asking myself: what am I REALLY afraid of?

And once I could answer this question truthfully for myself, I conquered my fears – as simple as that.

The effect was an intense feeling of enlightenment and immense liberation - absolutely amazing to experience! Just 36 hours post the cancer diagnosis, I felt like being propelled into another hemisphere, feeling so full of hope and joy and gratitude .... and free of fear.

I admit that my very personal fear was that I die too early, before having given enough love to those who matter. I reflected, wandered down the following trail of thoughts and came to these conclusions: don’t be silly, everyone has to die one day. Without death there is no life. And actually I am super-lucky because I am not dropping dead immediately but the cancer allows me to live on for at least some time. So better get started and give the love I feel!

In order to discover what YOUR TRUE FEAR is, I recommend a technique that we apply also in business to get to the root cause of a problem. It’s the why – why – why analysis. Asking “Why?” may be a favorite technique of your child in driving you crazy, but it can teach you a valuable lesson. By repeatedly asking the question “Why” (minimum three times, five is a good rule of thumb), you can peel away the layers of your fear and discover the root cause. Very often the ostensible reason for a problem will lead you to another question and finally help you find the true reason for your fear.

And once you have dug deep, you will be so much wiser on how to address your fear, conquer it with an action plan and come out stronger and more confident. It might also encourage you to consider that NO ONE is without fear, without doubts or concerns. The challenge is to not be paralyzed by your fears and doubts but accept them as inner-felt warning signs that make you think, contemplate and find solutions.
