To get to a happy place
People tend to think that they cannot feel happy until every one of their problems is solved. My experience is that it can well be the other way around. Becoming a happy person will help you solve your problems and help you to find your way out of difficult situations.
When we focus on what is going wrong, even when we are trying to work through our problems, we leave little mental space to appreciate what is going right. Once you tune your mindset on feeling good and appreciative of what you are truly grateful for, you will enjoy a positive boost that helps you get through the difficult times.
So when it comes to happiness and leading a happy life, remember that happiness is a state of mind. If you can control your view of your life, your space in the world, and see it in relation to the bigger picture, you may find it's easier to be happy than you think!
To be in a happy place, it’s vital to accept your life whatever limitations or hurdles you are experiencing .... embracing challenges as growth opportunities and not focusing your energies on benchmarking your life with the life of others. When it comes to living with a handicap or a chronic illness, immense
patience will be required from yourself to accept that you might not be able to do the things that you did in your “old” life with the same speed and productivity. But it does not mean that your “new” life is worthless or not worth living. To the contrary, if you open your mindset, you realise that your new lifestyle can actually be absolutely amazing.
With my continuing Cancer Fatigue (= chronic exhaustion post breast cancer treatments; check out my earlier post if you would like to know more) my days are now structured around resting and sleeping times. I have also compartmentalized my favorite activities according to the required energy levels ... and I am consciously leaving out (or at least I am trying to reduce ;-) activities that are energy draining .... sounds like an incredibly fulfilling life? Well, I fully agree :-)
It is absolutely amazing but boils down to making conscious choices, setting boundaries and taking ownership of my mindset and ultimately my life. And if I can do it, you can do it - I am sure of it.
